TRIONYX®

Reconstructing the sternum after sternectomy : a major challenge

TRIONYX®

When a bone tumour is present in the sternum or chest wall, a partial or total bone resection is necessary.

But after the tumor is removed, another surgical challenge begins : bone reconstruction of the chest.

Reconstruction must ensure that :

  • The rigidity of the thoracic cage is restored,
  • The mediastinal structures – the heart, lungs, and major blood vessels – are protected,
  • The mobility necessary for effective respiratory mechanics is preserved, and the development of paradoxical breathing is prevented.

Sternal reconstruction must therefore strike a balance between strength, stability and adaptation to the patient’s anatomy.

The aim is to achieve stable reconstruction following a wide resection that removes all cancer cells (R0).

With this in mind, NEURO FRANCE Implants developed the TRIONYX® range in 2016, designed for extensive reconstruction of the sternum and/or manubrium following a partial or total sternectomy.

Comprising sternal plates and staples, the system allows for adaptation to each patient’s anatomy and stable reconstruction of the thoracic cage.
