Chest trauma

when to consider osteosynthesis ?

ThoRib

For many years, rib fractures were managed almost exclusively through conservative treatment. In recent years, clinical practices have progressively evolved: but when does a rib fracture warrant surgical stabilisation ?

There is no single answer. The decision relies on a comprehensive clinical and radiological assessment, taking into account factors such as the number of fractures, their displacement, the presence of a flail chest, persistent pain, and the impact on respiratory function.

One thing is clear : surgical stabilisation of rib fractures (SSRF) is increasingly recognised as an important component in the management of severe thoracic trauma. By restoring chest wall stability, it may help improve respiratory mechanics, facilitate early mobilisation, and reduce certain complications.

At NEURO FRANCE Implants, we have been supporting this evolution for more than 10 years with ThoRib®, a dedicated system for the stabilisation of rib fractures and flail chest, designed to meet the demanding requirements of thoracic and trauma surgery.
